Students may be dismissed from PPCA for excessive absenteeism. Students must be in school to learn. Students are expected to arrive at school on time and stay throughout the day. A written notice from administration will be sent to parents/guardians once their child has obtained two (2) unexcused absences in a grading period. Parents/guardians will receive written attendance probation notification after five (5) unexcused absences. Parents should schedule appointments for their child after school when possible.
Teachers are required to take attendance at the beginning of each class. If there are extenuating circumstances regarding a student’s absence from school, please notify the attendance or guidance office. Communication is vital to achieve our goal of reducing student absenteeism. It is very important to keep the school informed of any changes in contact information. Parents are asked to contact the main office at 984-2443 to update their information.
As outlined in the Polk County Code of Student Conduct, excused absences include:
Personal Illness – A note must be submitted by the parent within three days of their child’s return to school and the absence does not exceed more than 10 attendance days in a 90-day calendar period.
Illness or Death in the Immediate Family – A note must be signed by the
parent and submitted upon return to school.
Religious Holidays – A writtten notice is submitted by the parent not more than
five days prior to the absence
Educational Trips – must be prearranged with teacher and approved by the principal. The student must submit a written report to the teacher upon return to school.
Trips with Parents – The trip must be prearranged and approved by the school
administration. Emergencies will not be excused unless determined by the
administrator
School Sponsored Activities – Activities must be prearranged with the school administration.
Judicial Actions – A copy of the subpoena or court summons must be provided upon return to school.
